BACKGROUND CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS

Pennsylvania State Child Protective Service law requires that all volunteers who come into contact with or are responsible for children submit the following clearances every 36 months:

REQUIREMENTS FOR IN-STATE VOLUNTEERS:  

  1. Pennsylvania State Police Clearance (no fee for volunteers)  

  2. Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (no fee for volunteers)

  3. Disclosure Statement or FBI Criminal History & Fingerprint Clearance

OBTAINING REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECKS PA RESIDENTS:

  1. Complete a Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) criminal history check. There is no fee for PA residents to complete this. Go to:   https://epatch.state.pa.us.  Select “New Record Check (Volunteers Only)”. You will receive an email with your completed report. Print and/or save the report and email a copy to volunteers@ctbrivervalley.org.

  2. Complete a PA Child Abuse History Clearance. There is no fee for PA residents to complete this. You can complete this online by clicking this link. Create and submit a clearance application. Once logged in, select “Volunteer having contact with children”, volunteer category is “Other”, enter Camp To Belong River Valley. Reports are typically ready in 2-14 days.

  3. Complete a Disclosure Statement (for volunteers residing in PA more than 10 years). If you have been a resident of Pennsylvania for more than 10 years, you are NOT required to obtain the FBI Clearance. You only need to complete the PA Disclosure Statement.

If you are a PA resident but have not been a resident of PA for more than 10 years, you will be required to complete an FBI Criminal History and Fingerprint Clearance. Please follow this link to complete the FBI Clearance.

REQUIREMENTS FOR OUT-OF-STATE VOLUNTEERS:  

  1. Pennsylvania State Police Clearance (no fee for volunteers)  

  2. Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (no fee for volunteers)

  3. Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance  ($25.75 fee)

OBTAINING REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECKS NON PA RESIDENTS:

  1. Complete a Criminal Background Check You will receive an email from Camp To Belong River Valley inviting you to participate in the background check process facilitated by our third party vendor Verified Volunteers.

  2. Complete a Child Abuse History Clearance. Contact your state DHS local county office and request a Child Abuse Clearance. Be sure to let them know it is for volunteering purposes. Typically there is no fee.

  3. Complete an FBI Criminal History and Fingerprint:  Go to www.identogo.com and select “Get Fingerprinted” to schedule an appointment and pay for the background check.  The cost of the FBI criminal history clearance through DHS is $25.75

FBI Clearance General Information

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services utilizes Identogo by Idemia to process fingerprint-based FBI criminal background checks. The fingerprint-based background check is a multi-step process. Fingerprinting Process

Appointments to be fingerprinted are not required, but pre‐registration is required either online or by phone. To register online, please go to www.Identogo.com; by telephone please call 1-844-321-2101 and listen to the options menu. When you register, please provide the service code. 1KG6ZJ.  Once registered, you may walk‐in during a location’s posted hours of operation, but scheduling an appointment may lead to lesser/no wait times.

Clearances that were completed for employment or another organization where you volunteer may be submitted.


Please submit copies of all clearances to volunteers@ctbrivervalley.org upon receipt. No individual will be permitted to volunteer in any capacity without the proper clearances and paperwork on file.
